How to start an upload from your engagement and install Barclays Connect
Barclays Connect is the application that connects to your accounting package on your computer and uploads your data securely. Every Barclays Connect upload starts the same way: you begin from your engagement in the LedgerShare portal, then download and install Barclays Connect. This article covers those steps. Once Barclays Connect is installed, you follow the guide for your accounting package.
Using a cloud accounting package?
Cloud packages such as Sage Intacct connect to LedgerShare directly, so there is nothing to download or install. Follow the guide for your accounting package instead.
Before you start
Check these things before you begin. Sorting them out now avoids getting interrupted partway through the upload.
- Read Please read this BEFORE trying to upload data.
- Check the Barclays Connect Technical Specifications are in place on your machine. This covers the user permissions Barclays Connect needs to install and run.
- Make sure you're online. Your data is sent while the process runs, so a stable internet connection is needed throughout.
- Have permission to install software on your computer. Barclays Connect needs a temporary install.
Step 1
Get started with your engagement
Log in to the LedgerShare portal, select the relevant Engagement, then select Share Data Now.
Step 2
Choose your accounting package
On Which accounting package do you use?, search for your accounting package or choose it from the popular list. It may already be selected for your engagement.
Your upload includes Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable by default. To also include the General Ledger and Trial Balance, select Include General Ledger and Trial Balance. Then select Next.
Step 3
Download the application
On Download the application, select Download. This downloads Barclays Connect, which appears on screen as VClient.
Step 4
Open the downloaded file
Your browser downloads vClient.application. Open it from your downloads folder, or from your browser's download history, to start the installation. Shown here in Chrome. If you're using a different browser, follow one of these guides instead: Google Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge.
Step 5
Confirm the download
Depending on your browser and computer setup, you may see a security warning. Select Keep to continue.
Step 6
Install Barclays Connect
Once the file has finished downloading, open it to begin the installation. Select Install to continue. The URL shown may differ from yours depending on your region.
What happens next
Barclays Connect opens automatically once installed, and locates your accounting package. From here, follow the guide for your accounting package to connect and upload your data.
Barclays Connect is removed from your computer automatically once the upload has completed, unless you choose a scheduled upload.
Troubleshooting
- Security Prompts when Uploading Data, if your antivirus asks about the file.
- Error: Application cannot be started, if Barclays Connect will not open after installing.
- Uninstall Pre-Existing vClient, if an older version is already installed.
- Barclays Connect Microsoft .NET Framework and Windows Requirements, to check your Windows and .NET versions.
A firewall or antivirus blocking Barclays Connect is a common cause and usually needs your IT team to resolve.
